We highly recommend using Crossharbour. When alighting walk along E Ferry Road where you’ll find an entry to Mudchute Park on your left. Enter the park and follow the path and signs to the main event area.

For those exiting at Island Gardens, as you exit the station turn left and follow Manchester Road down until you reach Pier St (Mourinho's is on the corner). Follow Pier Street to the end where you will find a small visitors car park and entrance to the park.

For Mudchute DLR, cross E Ferry Road using the zebra crossing and just to your immediate left, you will see the entrance gateway to Mudchute Park. As you enter, bear to your right and follow the long straight path to the riding arena. There is restricted access to the stables area. Please follow the pathway behind the stables and kitchen and enter through the entrance to our main courtyard.

By bus Take the D3, D6 or 135 bus towards Crossharbour and disembark at the ASDA supermarket. Walk towards Mudchute Park walkway entrance. Follow the path through the park to arrive at the main event entrance. Alternatively catch the D3 or D7 bus travelling via Island Gardens DLR station, and alight at Pier Street, next to Mourinho's restaurant. At the end of Pier Street you will find the entrance to Mudchute Park.

By river Thames Clippers run regular services from Embankment to Woolwich. To visit Mudchute Park, you can disembark at either Masthouse Terrace on the North side of the river, or the adjacent stop, Greenwich Pier on the South side. If disembarking, at Greenwich Pier, your route will include a walk under the Thames through the historic Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Both stations are approximately a 15 minute walk from Mudchute Park.

By foot or bike You can walk to Mudchute Park from either Islands Gardens or Canary Wharf in under 15 minutes. From Island Gardens cross Millwall Park and enter the Park at the gate next to the One O'clock Club. From Canary Wharf cross the footbridge to South Quay and walk down E Ferry Road entering Mudchute Park just after ASDA. Please a local map for more details of the entrance and exit points.

By bike enter the Park either from E Ferry Rd or from Pier Street. Bikes can be securely locked inside the event area.

TFL Bicycle hire/docking stations are conveniently located outside Mudchute and Island Gardens DLR stations as well as on Stebondale Street and E Ferry Road.

More FAQS

Why was this Festival created?

The idea to create the Windrush Festival was formed in 2017. The goal was to produce a black owned and run festival, which would reflect intersectionality of subcultural groups across the Caribbean and Africa, whilst highlighting the obvious merge with British culture itself. It also aimed to highlight the often overshadowed Creole elements in the Black Community. Once launched it became the annual celebration to also acknowledge the newly formed National Windrush Day created in 2018.

Who Created the Festival?

Founded by a grass-roots entrepreneur Wendy & her small collective of friends, the vision was set in motion to deliver London’s first large-scale Windrush Festival. It was important to present a festival which used the Windrush as a core narrative to express the relevance of historical Black migration in Britain.

“We wanted to help shape the ongoing generational legacy of the UK’s Black Communities & create something to be enjoyable for a range of people across all community but delivered exclusively from the black perspective. For many decades, multiculturalism & popular culture has leveraged itself on various aspects of ‘Blackness’ without necessarily attributing it back to the communities it was taken from, or allowing them to equitably celebrate as freely in our social, outdoor & open spaces.”

Why is it not free?

The Windrush Festival is not a grant funded event or a major sponsored festival. It is self-funded by the founder Wendy. If you want to sponsor, get in touch.
