Heritage House

Info Deck

Info Summary

As part of the Windrush 75 celebrations in the UK, Radiate Festival is seeking responses from organisations that would like to be involved in celebrating National Windrush Day in June 2023. The 6th annual Windrush Festival takes place in Southwark, the heart of South London & is both a multi-generational & inter-generational community-focused event.

Audiences will be 1st - 4th generation British-born Caribbeans & those with an interest in the Caribbean, African & Latin American territories.

Partners have a variety of participation options which allow organisations to have the level of involvement & presence they feel best placed to deliver.

Creating new partnerships with organisations/institutions would be a great opportunity to focus on education, culture & knowledge sharing, particularly from the Caribbean perspectives.

Initial ideas are flexible and based on growing a unique connection between organisations/institutions & the diaspora communities by using informal social education to increase cultural understanding & correct outdated perspectives.

This pitch deck is for those who would like to be part of the Heritage House.

About Heritage House

The Windrush Heritage House is an in-person & virtual space to connect disaporans where culture meets history meets heritage.

Event attendees can come along to learn, experience and immerse themselves. The effort is to gain a wider understanding & explore deeper connections in an accessible way.

Ideally the space aims to unpack the layered parts of a very complex history and unbundle a mono-culture ideal to give both identity clarity and empower the voices of diaspora community groups.

Global Bookshop

Within the Heritage House we aim to create a reading & literary space for attendees to explore a range of academic and special interest titles. They can purchase to take home on the day or pre-order for shipping at a later date from an institution's bookshop or shipped direct from publishing houses.

The purpose would be to share titles & texts that have little exposure and are not found here in the UK but are great resources of authentic cultural information from Black & Caribbean authors.

Ideally the pop-up bookshop will carry titles that focus on the subjects of language, life stories, global perspectives, tradition, art & history. The shop may also look at extending to branded merchandise of organisations/institutions to build diaspora affinity.

Pop Uni

Extending the literary experience, the heritage house can include a pop-up uni space. Educators from across the UK & Caribbean can present short talks on a variety of subjects such as creole & pidgin languages, traditional customs, Caribbean migration & economic development, import & export, racial inequity, wealth disparities, sustainability etc.

An organisation/institution may send a cohort of delegates from a selection of departments to travel to the festival.

This will be an opportunity to bring a taste of learning & conversational topics to real communities whilst promoting the quality of learning available across the organisations/institutions within the Caribbean & UK.

Living Story

Stories are everywhere and in everyone, our goal is to help give these stories life, purpose and meaning.

As part of the festival this year we are seeking to create a safe space to share some of the life stories of attendees and their families.

We are seeking organisations/institutions that can help to facilitate this journey and produce a series of shares.
